Ultra-Low Sulfur Heating Fuel
Go Green With An Alternative Fuel From United Metro Energy
Ultra-low sulfur heating fuel is a New York State mandated environmentally friendly heating fuel, and can also provide direct and indirect benefits to consumers. United Metro Energy’s ultra-low sulfur fuel allows cost savings that are associated with longer equipment life, higher boiler efficiency, greater fuel consistency, and reduced maintenance and cleanings of your equipment. Studies have found that ultra-low sulfur fuel has reduced emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter by over 70 percent compared to traditional heating fuel.
On July 20, 2010, Governor Paterson signed the “Clean Heating Oil” bill into law, which lowers the sulfur content in #2 heating oil by 99%. As of July 2012, all #2 heating oil in New York State must contain no more than 15 parts per million sulfur. This is a 99% reduction of sulfur. Ultra-low sulfur heating oil replaces traditional #2 oil, which had an allowable sulfur cap of 2,000 ppm in New York City.
On August 16, 2010, Mayor Bloomberg signed Local Law 43, which requires that the sulfur content in #4 heating oil to be reduced from 3,000 ppm to 1,500 ppm.
